Week Eleven: Cyberpunk and Steampunk; Ghost in a Shell (5 Points)
Just like the Martian I was very excited to finally get a chance to read the book for Ghost in a shell! The Visual aspect of the film captured my artist eye and overall I loved the film—would definitely go and watch it again sometime. I’d like to mention that cyberpunk and overall the technology based aspect of storytelling has enraptured my heart for a long time. I’d love to thank my dad for that—making me watch Tron Legacy was a game changer for young me back in the day.
Now I read the Manga version of Ghost in a shell (which you said was acceptable) and I just gotta say—THE ART IS SPECTACULAR!! AHH I absolutely love manga styles from that time! I find it unique how most mangas back in the day or even now, incorporate a lot of futuristic technology. Even if they weren't specifically defined to be cyberpunk, there were a lot of elements of the genre that would appear in the art. I’d give examples but i think you understand what I mean.
In the manga, the reader follows the main character Major Motoko Kusanagi—herself is an augmented cybernetic human who is a commander in the police force. In the manga, Motoko ends up in a dangerous investigation that involves these ghost hackers—who are also known to be puppeteers. The further along major Motoko goes in this investigation she ends up discovering a lot more than anticipated.
Again!! I’m glad I got to read the Manga! >:3
